Description:
The last of several extremely violent storms that swept the South East occured in 1287, causing the final destruction of Old Winchelsea which had played a very important part in the defence, shipbuilding and general trade of England. Realising the inevitability of this, King Edward 1 had already purchased land for the replacement town on the Hill of Iham where 'New' Winchelsea still stands and work was well under way. Our museum shows much of the history of the town - come and see us. Parking is easy and free and refreshments are available in the town. Please note that the museum is not suitable for the infirm as it is housed on an upper floor and outdoor steps are involved. A small admission charge applies for adults.

Location:
Outside Rye, Countryside ( View Map )

Pricing:
Open Tuesday to Saturday & Bank Holiday Mondays 10:30am to 12:30pm and 2pm to 5pm. Sundays 2pm to 5pm. Closed October until Easter.
